Since we began the journey of getting the company off the ground and involved in the WFB community we have added some key components to the company. We hope you like them.
First, MJ Whiting (formerly Rosenbaum) reached out to the administration of Whitefish Bay High School and opened a channel of communication between it and The ’82 Project officers. Geoff Heeren has been busy working with Principal Henkle and some of the other faculty members in setting up a Scholarship offering for a College-bound graduating senior from the WFBHS class of 2013.
Our first scholarship offering will be given at the Senior awards night on May 22nd. In addition to the cash award, the winner will also become an honorary member of the class of ’82 and a lifetime member of The ’82 Project. He/she will also be given access to the wealth of knowledge we 1982 grads have. (so far that is limited to the 7-8 of us at The ’82 Project). If you are willing to offer assistance with summer internship/job placement, helping with employment interview skills, writing a resume, sending care packages, post-graduation re-location search and post graduate networking let us know and we will reserve a spot for you on the contact list. Think of it as a part giving back to the school that gave you the education and experience that WFBHS did.
Additionally, and thanks to some inside work from Dave Jacobson, on March 28th, 2013 a feature article will be placed in the WFBHS Tower Times. The article will give some exposure to the company and assist us in getting some traction in the community. You can view a copy of the paper and read the article at www.wfbtowertimes.com.
Second, Beth Brahe has taken the initiative to set a monthly meeting for anyone that wishes to attend. She calls it the “2nd Friday of the Month Club” and you can find her group on Facebook. They have a casual night out on, you guessed it, the 2nd Friday of every month, a glass of wine and some great conversation. Last month several in the group offered up some assistance with “The ’82 Project”. This group helps keep the spirit of our company alive and in front of us. Cheers ladies, you bring it to life!
Third, Jon Wallace has been working diligently on getting the website up and functional. It takes a lot of time and patience to get that moving so a round of applause is in order. Soon you will be able to see links to all the exciting things we have been working on; Events, projects, officers profiles, photos and much more. Feel free to visit it at www.the82project.org.
Last, it’s time to make a donation. It is what the company, idea and spirit of this is all about. Our company website will have a link to “PayPal” within the next few days. You will be able to make your tax-deductible contribution into a specific “bucket” for distribution or it can just go to the general fund.
Thanks to everyone that is making this happen. We are so proud to be a part of this project coming together and hoping that as we move forward, each of you feels what we have been feeling for some time now; That it’s time to act, to assist those that need it most and to give back to the people and community that helped mold us into who and what we all are today.
